In 1981, the Reichel family purchased its current location on 21st Street in Northampton. The home was the original residence of Dr. Charles A. Haff, founder and chief of staff of the Haff hospital, a 10-room private hospital that grew to a 40-bed community hospital serving the area populated by over 20,000 persons. He built the home in 1923 for him and his family to reside next to the hospital that he founded which brought the latest developments in the surgical and medical profession to Northampton. He made it his life’s achievement to serve his community and was acknowledged for his outstanding contributions by receiving honorary degrees from two local colleges, Cedar Crest College and Moravian College. Dr. Haff had a passion for music and played, as well as collected, various rare instruments from across the world and was proud to possess two Stradivarius violins. He later formed different musical groups to entertain the community and his patients at his hospital. He passed away in 1946 in the 21st Street home and since then, only one other family prior to the Reichel family has owned the residence. Today the Reichel Funeral Home is still beautifully adorned with the original fireplaces, large wood trim, maids’ quarters, and a grand staircase, and truly preserves and showcases the original beauty of this home.

Kevin S. Reichel, one of Joseph's sons, became the proud owner of the Reichel Funeral Home, Northampton on April 1, 2013. Previously, he served as Vice President of Reichel Funeral Homes, Inc. since its origin in 1986. The Reichel family has been serving the Lehigh Valley for over 55 years and Kevin looks forward to serving this community for many years to come from this beautiful and inviting location rich in history.
