Obituary

Yolanda Wilma Mikovits passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on Friday, June 4, 2021. She was born in Coplay, PA on April 28, 1940 to John Mikovits and Rose (Lorenz) Mikovits. She died the way she lived: on her own terms and in her own way. Yolanda graduated from Central Catholic High School in Allentown in 1958 and took great pride in her professional accomplishments at Bethlehem Steel, AT&T, Lucent, and Agere. Yolanda was also passionate about art and music—especially polkas—and for many years she performed and recorded with the Walt Groller Orchestra. She was active in the community, serving as a member of Coplay Rec & Welfare where she began the Little Miss Coplay pageant. She loved working with children and served as a Great Valley Girl Scout leader for the St. Peter's Brownie troop for 25 years. Yolanda was generous with her time and volunteered for several organizations including the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program. In her retirement, Yolanda's biggest joy was spending time with her great nieces and nephews, doing whatever they wanted to do. Yolanda also had an active social life and maintained life-long friendships with countless people she met throughout the years. She filled her days with family and friends.

She is survived by her sister Elizabeth (Mikovits) Kern and brother John Mikovits; nieces and nephews Cyndi (Kern) Gregory, Deb (Kern) Hogan, Sue (Kern) Greenplate, Meg Mikovits, and John Mikovits; and great nieces and nephews Abigail and Josh Greenplate, Noah Hogan, Keegan and Zoie Gregory, and Jude and Wren Allen.

Services: A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 10th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter Cemetery, Whitehall. Arrangements are under the direction of Reichel Funeral Home, Northampton.

Yolanda expressed her deepest gratitude to all her doctors for always being kind and caring to her. She asked that contributions in her memory be made to the American Cancer Society, 3893 Adler Place, Suite 170, Bethlehem, PA 18017 or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
