Walter K. Schmidt Sr., 85, of Northampton, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Sacred Heart Senior Living, Northampton, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Joan (Braun) Schmidt, who passed away on April 22, 2003. Born January 7, 1941, in Northampton, he was a son of the late Frank and Lena (Bauman) Schmidt. Walter was a 1959 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School. He worked at Bethlehem Steel as a drop forge for over 30 years. He was a member of Queenship of Mary Church and the Coplay Saengerbund. Walter coached youth baseball for the Northampton Athletic Association. 

Survivors: sons, Karl and wife, Anne, Walter K. Jr., and Michael; grandchildren, Sven, Andrew (Giulianna), Kody, Jocelyn, Kaitlyn, and Hunter; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Madelyn, Elliott, and Morgan; brother, Frank and wife, Ulrike; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, John. 

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 29th at 11:00 a.m. in Queenship of Mary Church, 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton. Family and friends may call Monday morning from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to Family Pillars Hospice, Sacred Heart Senior Living, or Queenship of Mary Church in Walter’s memory.
