Obituary

Thomas A. Smith, 73, of Allentown, passed away peacefully Friday, July 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Tom and his wife, Donna (Keeney), celebrated 53 years of marriage on July 1st. Born August 2, 1951, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Andrew and Jane (Romig) Smith.

Tom was a proud graduate of the Cathedral School, Allentown Central Catholic High School, and Penn State University, and went on to earn a master's degree in education. He dedicated over 30 years of service to the City of Allentown, ultimately retiring as the Director of Recreation. He played a key role in the success of community events such as Super Sunday, Mayfair, and Lights in the Parkway.

He coached his children and grandchildren in various sports throughout their lives. After retirement, Tom continued to share his passion for education as a teacher and coach at Bethlehem Catholic High School. A devoted tennis enthusiast, he was a member of Oakmont Tennis Club. Tom loved traveling with Donna and his family, both across the United States and abroad. His favorite places included Italy, Colorado, Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park, the Duke Gardens, Topsail Beach and Harker's Island, Shenandoah National Park, Promised Land State Park and Slumber Valley Campground.  Tom was an avid fan of Penn State football, Duke basketball, and the New York Yankees. He was a prolific reader, loved the stars, photography, art, music and poetry, and baking with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by twin sons, Mike and wife, Laurie, and Paul and wife, Deniz; daughters, Kate and wife, Jackie, and Gena and husband, John; Samantha, the daughter of his heart; grandchildren, Simon, Sidney, Olivia, Lola, Zoey, Lilli, Lucius, Elanor, Imogene, and Josephine; sisters, Mary and husband, Bill, Jill and husband, Richard, and Pat and husband, Al; and many brothers & sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Services: Visitation with the family between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the family residence on Sunday, July 27th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 28th at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 5050 St. Josephs Rd., Coopersburg. Interment will be private.
