Obituary

Stephen Skrapits, 90, of Northampton, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, April 10, 2026. Born on November 24, 1935, in Szentpeterfa, Hungary he was the son of the late Istvan and Johanna (Kurcz) Skrapits.

Stephen immigrated to the United States in 1957 and loved his new homeland. In February, Stephen and his wife, Heidi (Demidont) celebrated 61 years of marriage. He was a faithful member of Queenship of Mary Catholic Church in Northampton where he served on the church choir for over 60 years. Stephen, along with his two brothers and brother-in-law, was the founder of Northampton Concrete Form in 1961 and Skrapits Concrete Company in 1971. He was a member of the St. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Sick and Beneficial Society (Hungarian Hall) where he participated in bowling leagues for many years. His claim to fame was to achieve two perfect 300 games.  Stephen was also a proud member of the Ring of Fire Club where he cheered for the Eagles. Over the years, Stephen enjoyed playing cards with his many friends. The most important thing in Stephen's life was spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors: In addition to his wife, Stephen is survived by his children Jane Pany, Lisa Longenbach and husband Mark, Stephen Jr., Susan Biesecker and fiancé David Hetherington, Thomas and wife Sharon; grandchildren, Emily Pursel and husband John, Richard Pany and partner Patrick Onnen, Gabriella Coshland and husband Edward, Julia Donahue and husband James IV, Nicholas Longenbach, Alexander Skrapits, and Imre Biesecker; great grandchildren, Cecilia, Sophia, James and many nieces and nephews. Stephen was predeceased by siblings: Cecilia, Maria, George, Anna and John.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 17th at 11:00 a.m. in the church, 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton. Family and friends may gather on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Friday morning from 9:15 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton. Interment will be at the parish cemetery. Online condolences may be offered below.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church in the loving memory of Stephen.
