Born August 28, 1938, in Tamaqua, PA, he was a son of the late Clarence and Catherine (Miller) Gerhard. He was married to Frances "Sue" (Riley) Gerhard, with whom he shared 4 years of marriage. Russel honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965 as an airman 1st class and from 1965 to 1967 in the Air Force Reserves. He was stationed at Offutt AFP in Nebraska, Keesler AFB in Mississippi, and Nassan AFB in Turkey. Russel worked for many NJ chemical businesses as a chemist and production supervisor. His last position was with National Starch in Manville, NJ. He is most known for working with James River Corp. in Milford, NJ.
