Richard T.
Molchany
Oct 14, 1933 — Dec 17, 2020
With one final salute to Saint Peter, and after asking permission to come aboard, Richard, 87, entered into Heaven on December 17, 2020. He was proud of his family, faith and the United States Navy.
Richard was married to Helen (Nemeth) Molchany and they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this December. Born in 1933, Richard was the son of Stephen and Anna (Zadzora) Molchany. He was active as a Koncrete Kid, playing football, basketball and baseball for Northampton High School. After high school, he graduated with an electrical/electronic engineering degree from Rider Technical Institute and a Management Certification from Penn State University.
Richard served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, where he was awarded the National Defense and Service Medals. He had the unique opportunity to serve aboard the heavy cruiser USS Baltimore (CA 68) and represented the United States during Queen Elizabeth's Coronation in 1953. This event was the mightiest peacetime fleet ever assembled, it numbered 1,000 ships that represented 22 nations. He served at the point position on the very first ship that paid respect to the new Queen of England.
He was proud of the United States Military and served as life member and Commander of VFW Post 7293 (Egypt) during the Vietnam War. During this difficult time in our country's history, his commitment to our service men and women was extraordinary as he directed numerous "welcome home" activities for our troops. Wanting to serve more, he was elected to Lehigh County VFW Commander and served with distinction. It was always his inclination to serve and he continued his service with the Hokendauqua American Legion by placing American Flags on the grave sites of our fallen veterans during Memorial and Veterans Days. Remember our veterans, remember them today and forever! "Hooyah"!
Richard was a member of Saint Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Berlinsville. He served faithfully, performing electrical repairs and general maintenance to keep those attending the house of God, comfortable.
He spent his career manufacturing cement. As first-class electrician, and then a mill production manager, he worked 26 years for Martin Marietta Cement. Then to finish his vocation, he directed the import/export of cement at the Lafarge Palm Beach Port Terminal until his retirement in 1993.
Surviving are his wife Helen, Son Rick, Daughter Kathy Ann Minnich (Jack), Daughter Lori Lynn Cassium (William); Granddaughters Ashley Elizabeth Hobel (Carl) and Courtney Lynn Cassium; and Greatgrandchildren Wilhelmina Ryan, Jude Wilder and Remington Grey. Richard is also survived by two Sisters, Bernadine Kurzeja and Elaine Molchany. Richard was predeceased by Daughter-in-law Lori, and Grandson Ryan Richard. In addition, he was predeceased by Parents, Brothers: Edward, Stephen, Bernard and Sister Marie.
Services will be private. Arrangements will be coordinated by Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E 21st Street, Northampton, PA 18067. In lieu of flowers, please donate, in Richard's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
