Richard D. Missmer, 83, known to his family and friends as Dick, was born in North Catasauqua, Pa. to Claude and Frances (Derany) Missmer. He passed away on June 30 after a brief illness with his wife, Dianne (Griesemer), by his side. Dick and Dianne would have been married for 58 years in September. He graduated from Catasauqua High School, joined the Army in 1965 and was stationed first in the United States and then assigned to the 8th Infantry Division in West Germany. After completing his tour of duty and returning to the United States in 1968, Dick went on to have a fulfilling career at Lehigh Structural Steel, achieving the position of Purchasing Manager. Dick enjoyed doing his own repairs and remodeling around the house. Not quite ready to retire, he established Dick’s Handyman Service. Using those skills, Dick and Dianne spent 3 years building their vacation home near Lake Wallenpaupack and spent many more years there boating, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Together, along with their friends Karen and Ron, they enjoyed adventures that took them to Ireland, New Zealand, China, Russia and so many more exciting places across Europe and the United States. Dick was also a diehard Eagles fan, so much so that family and friends were not allowed to call and interrupt him when he was watching a game. Survivors: loving wife Dianne, sister-in-law Jeanette Hammel (Alfred), nephews Michael Missmer (Jody), Russell Missmer (Danette), Christopher Missmer (Claudia), Alfred Hammel (Sara), James Hammel (Christine), Jeffrey Hammel, Stephen Frisch and John Frisch, great nephews Chase, Kaleb, Dane, Samuel, Jonas, Charlie, Alfred and Kellen, great nieces Alyssa, Catherine, Sophia, Evelyn and Lillian, great-great nephew Rhys and great-great niece Kinsley.

Predeceased: brothers Claude Missmer, Lee Missmer, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Corliss and Stephen Frisch, nephew Benjamin Hammel and great-great nephew Creed.

Honoring Dick’s wishes there will be no services. In loving memory of Dick memorial contributions can be made to a charity of your choice.
