Phyllis H. Sakovits, 96 of Northampton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 in Fellowship Terrace, Whitehall. Born on January 7, 1930 in Kreidersville, she was a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Rice) Vandegrift. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, John.
Phyllis was like a ray of sunshine who made everyone else around her a better person. Her radiant smile was infectious as it reflected the true and genuine person that she was. Never seeking recognition, always looking to assist. To say that Phyllis lived her life the right way is an understatement. She set the standard for it.
She was employed for the Northampton Area School District for 35 years, beginning as a secretary and retiring as the assistant business manager. Phyllis was a dedicated and faithful member of Queenship of Mary Catholic Church, Northampton where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and gave tirelessly of her time teaching various religious programs including RCIA and Catechism. She was a member of the PASR, Northampton County Chapter and was a volunteer at the Northampton Public Library for several years. A truly loving wife, mother, sister, and daughter, she will be missed by her son, Thomas and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis is preceded in death by her sister, Joann.
Special thanks to the entire staff at both Fellowship Community and Serenity Hospice for providing Phyllis with care, compassion and kindness that can only be described in superlatives.
