Peter F. Skrapits, 91, of Northampton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Joan E. (Daumer) Skrapits, who passed away in November 2014. Born February 6, 1935, in Northampton, he was the son of the late Peter and Anna M. (Kish) Skrapits. Peter honorably serviced his country in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he worked for the Local 30 Roofers Union. Peter was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. He was an avid cyclist and enjoyed riding his bike on the D&L Trail every day, often covering at least 20 miles. Peter also took great pleasure working in his garden and spending time socializing with his friends.
Survivors: son, Peter J. Skrapits; daughter-in-law, Susan Skrapits; granddaughter, Abigail Skrapits; and nephews, Jeffrey and Larry Varkonyi. He was predeceased by his sister, Lydia Varkonyi.
Services: A gathering with the family will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14th from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Assumption BVM Church, 22nd St. and Washington Ave., Northampton. Interment with military honors will be in the parish mausoleum.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice nurses, caregivers, and loved ones who cared for him with compassion, dignity, and kindness throughout this year.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to the church in Peter’s memory. Online condolences may be offered below.
