We are heartbroken to announce our beloved mother, Mary C. Gavalla Walker, 102, of Northampton, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Edward P. Gavalla Sr. and Edwin Walker. Born December 30, 1920, in Ormrod, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Barbara (Varga) Figura. Mary and her first husband, Edward, were the owners of Gavalla's Hotel in Cementon. She also worked as the head chef of Delaware Valley School District. Mary was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Coplay. She was an avid hunter and loved to garden, play cards, and listen to polkas. Mary was an excellent baker and cook.

Survivors: daughters, Kathleen Katchur, Nancy Heberling, and Carol Kercher; son, Edward P. Gavalla Jr.; son-in-law, Coleman L. Toth; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren and one on the way; and sister, Elaine Petock and husband, Michael. Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Maryellen Toth, and 7 siblings.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Mary's 103rd birthday, Saturday, Dec. 30th at 10:30 a.m. in the church, 4 S. 5th St., Coplay. Family and friends may call on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. in the church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to the church in loving memory of Mary. Online condolences may be offered below.
