Mary M. Gabovitz, 74, of Northampton, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital – Warren Campus. Mary and her loving husband, James A. "Jim" Gabovitz, celebrated 51 years of marriage together. Born June 1, 1946 in Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late James L. and Dorothy (Oswald) Gallagher. Mary was a graduate of Marian Catholic High School and Sacred Heart Nursing School. She worked for Lehigh Valley Hospital – Muhlenberg for many years and was a member of the Catholic Nurses Guild. Mary was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and volunteered for various church activities, including the soup kitchen and being a lector. She also was active with the Young at Heart and the Worldwide Marriage Encounter.
In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her sons, Joseph and his wife, Janet Tashner, and Andrew; grandchildren, Samuel, Stella, Vanessa, and Brooke; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her brother, Donald Gallagher, and sister, Graceanne Janis.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 30 th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 4412 Mountain View Dr., Walnutport. Family and friends may call Saturday from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Lehighton. Those in attendance will kindly be requested to practice social distancing and wear a face cover. Arrangements are under the direction of Reichel Funeral Home, Northampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be presented to Sisters of Good Shepherd, 348 9th St., Brooklyn, NY 11215 in loving memory of Mary. Online condolences may be offered above.
