Maria Mercedes Bohorquez-Espin, 94, of Whitehall, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. Maria was the wife of the late Carlos T. Espin. Born August 15, 1926 in Guayaquil, Ecuador, she was a daughter of the late Alfonso and Mercedes (Jara) Bohorquez. Maria received her certificate as Seamstress Teacher and owned her own Boutique and Dressmaker shop. Maria loved to go to church, socialize and spend time with friends and family. She was a compassionate mother to all, and in turn was beloved by all she met in her life. She was a pillar of strength for her family—displaying courage, generosity, joy, warmth and unconditional love.
Survivors: daughters, Mercedes Montes and husband, Omar, Carmen Cruz and husband, Jorge, Maria Bowen and husband Carlos, Angela Escoto and husband, Marvin; son, Carlos E. Espin and wife, Martha; grandchildren, Angie, Jessica, Charlie, Edward, Jay, Melissa, Paul, Daniel, Stephanie; great grandsons, Christian, Wolfgang, Dramir, Roman, Jacob; and brother, Carlos A. Bohorquez. Maria was predeceased by sisters, Zoila and Carlota, and brothers, Alfonso and Martin, and granddaughter, Irene L. Cruz.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4 th at 11:00 a.m. in Valley View Baptist Church, 2870 Pheasant Dr., Northampton. Family and friends may call Tuesday night from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21 st St., Northampton and Wednesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Park, Whitehall. Those in attendance will kindly be requested to practice social distancing and wear a face cover.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be presented to church in loving memory of Maria. Online condolences may be offered above.
