Lucie Beal Martin, 93, died in Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest on August 17, 2024. Born in Hagerstown, MD on August 18, 1930, Lucie Beal was the youngest child of Lucie Dunbar Tippett and Eugene John Collins. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Hagerstown in 1948, and from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in 1952. While in college, she served as class president 4 years and sang in the Glee Club and College Choir. Lucie Beal worked on the editorial staffs of the college newspaper and 1952 yearbook Arras, and won several national writing awards for short stories, poetry, and essays. During college years, she held summer positions at Fairchild Aircraft Division, Hagerstown, and the FBI in Washington, DC. After graduation from college, Lucie Beal became engaged to Thomas Elmer Martin, a schoolmate from St. Mary's. They were married on August 1, 1953. She worked at Fairchild Aircraft as editor of the employee newspaper until the birth of her first child in 1954. Four more children followed, all of whom were born in Hagerstown. In 1967, her husband Tom, employed in Purchasing at Mack Trucks, was transferred from Hagerstown to Mack's Allentown headquarters, and the family relocated to Emmaus, PA. She stayed at home taking care of her children until 1972 when she secured a position in Customer Service at Rodale Press, serving as liaison between CS personnel and Human Resources until her retirement in 1992.

She is survived by her children, sons: Thomas Raymer, Jeffrey Dunbar, and John Daniel; daughters: Susan Beal Daugherty and Mary Collins Dinbokowitz; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, Tom, she was predeceased by her siblings, Jane Collins Mullendore and Eugene Collins Jr.  Lucie Beal will be deeply missed by her family, who will carry her loving memory in their hearts forever.
