Obituary

John Alexander Gill, 80, of Whitehall, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 29th, 2024.  Born in Allentown, PA to William and Tessie (Maitski) Gill.  He had seven siblings: brothers Alex (deceased), Nicholas, and William, and sisters Marianne (Charles) Bianckini (deceased), Patricia (James-deceased) Baker, Rosemary Gill, and Ann (Charles) Fritz.

John graduated from Whitehall HS and went on to serve at the Armed Forces Staff College, followed by the Army Reserves. He was an active member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Whitehall.  He was a proud 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and various bowling leagues.  John also co-chaired The Cement Belt Fair for a few years. He was a member of the American Legion, and the Catholic War Veterans. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtics fan and loved to play Pinochle.

John is survived by the love of his life, wife Sylvia (Stravino) of Allentown and celebrated 56 years of marriage. They were blessed with three daughters: Thérèse (Michael) Sowa of Camp Hill; Yvonne (late Tom) Kuklis of Allentown; and Jonelle (Harry) Yonak of Orefield. John took great pride in watching his three daughters grow and flourish with the additions of his beloved grandchildren: Alexander and Zachary (Carly) Sowa; Natasha and Luke Kuklis; and Dominic Yonak.

John worked at LaFarge Cement Co. for 29 years then went on to work at the Wine & Spirits Store in Allentown where he was known for his amazing tie collection.  John's legacy of hard work, service, and his dry sense of humor will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.  He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
