Obituary

Joan M. Yasenchok, 84, of North Whitehall, PA, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Joni was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Bacak) Kulanko. Born in Bethlehem, she was a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School, class of 1957. She began a teaching career at Saint Anne's Elementary but found her calling as a dedicated mother and homemaker for many years. When her eldest left for college, she reentered the workforce as a front office secretary at Parkland High School and worked for more than 20 years. Joni enjoyed the interaction with the kids and especially celebrated in all their accomplishments. She was an active parishioner at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and participated in the RCIA program, deepening her own faith as she helped prepare new members of the Church. Joni continued her faith development with participation in women's group and bible study, forging deep friendships. Joni was a proud sorority member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 65 years, forging lifelong bonds of sisterhood while performing works of service to the greater community. She was a member of the Lehigh Valley Couturiere Society, and loved the creative process, reveling in the talent and artistry of her fellow members. She loved meeting people and was an avid conversationalist. She leaves behind many devoted friends that she made throughout her life.

Joni is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, David Yasenchok; brother Jack and his wife Carol Kulanko; daughters, Denise Shost, Debra (Yasenchok) Culter, son-in-law, Brandon Culter, and Donna Yasenchok; grandchildren, Jessica Shost, Michael Shost and fiancée, Jane Hinkle, Carsen Culter, and Jackson Culter.
