Obituary

Jerome J. "Jerry" Matika, Sr., 74 of Whitehall, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. Born on July 20, 1951 in Allentown, he was a son of the late John and Margaret (Rechtor) Matika. Jerry and his wife, Kathleen (Budihas) celebrated 52 years of marriage together. He was employed as a customer service agent for US Airways, employed in maintenance with East Coast Jets and a school bus driver for the Whitehall/Coplay School District for many years. Jerry honorably served our country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and Peacetime. He was an avid car enthusiast, attending car shows throughout the area. He participated as Santa with the Hokendauqua Operation Santa for over 30 years.

Jerry's greatest love was his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jerry Matika, Jr. (Sheila), Chris Matika (Janine), Leanne Muth (Jeremy); grandchildren, Matt, Kayla, Bella, Vince, Jules, Dean, Ben; great grandson, Wyatt; sister, Cindy Moser (Phil); brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and extended family.

Services: Family and friends may gather on Saturday, August 2nd from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St. Northampton. Funeral services with military honors will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be private. Online condolences may be offered below.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in loving memory of Jerry.
