Obituary

Jean M. Rau, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2016. Born September 5, 1926 in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Florence (Berger) Kern. She was the wife of the late Ernest N. Rau of Allentown. Jean was a Den Mother in Cub Scout Pack #93 from 1952 to 1955. It was the first Cub Scout troop in Northampton.

She became an Intermediate Girl Scout Leader from September 1955 to 1961 and a Senior Troop Leader from 1962 to 1964. In 1959, she became a Delegate to Camp Edith Macy, a training school with educational courses including, Girl Scout administration, outdoor skills, arts and crafts with related field work and world friendship. Later that year, Jean received the "Thanks Medal," the highest award given for meritorious work in Girl Scouting. She served as the first Neighborhood Commissioner of Northampton, Bath, Kreidersville, Indianland and Cherryville from 1961 to 1964. She became a member of Eastern Star in 1966. Jean was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Northampton, where she taught Sunday school and sang on the choir.

Jean is survived by two daughters, Nancy Eddinger of Pleasanton, California and Sally McFetridge of Whitehall; three grandchildren, Nate, Andrea and Corey; as well as nephews and nieces, Roger and Rose Kern, Bob Kern, and Rich and Lori Kern. Jean will be missed.

Services: Funeral Services will be Friday, December 16th at 11:00 am in the Reichel Funeral Home 326 E. 21st St. Northampton. Family and friends may call Friday 9:30 - 11:00 am. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown.Contributions: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's name to St. Luke's Hospice, 801 Ostrum Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
