James A. "Jim" "Gabby" Gabovitz, 81, of Northampton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. Born February 25, 1942, in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Jubik) Gabovitz. He was the husband of the late Mary M. (Gallagher) Gabovitz. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy. Jim was a tool maker at Western Electric. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Walnutport, where he served as lector and was on the choir. He was active with the Allentown Hiking Club, Lehigh Gap Nature Center, and Marriage Encounter. He was an avid hunter, grower of fruit, and a Brooklyn Dodgers fan.
Survivors: sons, Joseph and wife, Janet Tashner, and Andrew; grandchildren, Samuel, Stella, Vanessa, and Brooke; sister, Florence and husband, Dr. Ronald Lentz; brother, Mark and wife, Holly Gabovitz; and several nieces and nephews.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 20 th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church, 4412 Mountain View Dr., Walnutport. Family and friends may call Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in the church. Interment will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Lehighton. Arrangements are under the direction of the Reichel Funeral Home, Northampton. Online condolences may be offered below.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church or to Lehigh Gap Nature Center in loving memory of Jim.
