"Gerry" Filipovits

Geraldine C. "Gerry" Filipovits, 87, of Northampton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. Gerry and her husband, Andrew L. Filipovits, celebrated 54 years of marriage. She was born in 1933 in Cementon and was the daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine (Mayer) Molchany. Gerry was a 1951 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School. She proceeded to work as an executive secretary at GAC. She married Andy in October 1966. They owned and operated Andy's Market in Northampton from 1971 to 1991. Gerry and Andy then provided catering at the Northampton Hungarian Hall until retiring in 2014. She was a devout member of Queenship of Mary Church (formerly Our Lady of Hungary) in Northampton. Gerry sang on the church choir, was a member of the Women's Guild, and performed significant volunteer work, including helping with the CCD program. Gerry was an avid bingo player and loved family vacations to the Jersey Shore and Hungary.
In addition to her husband, Andy, Gerry is survived by her sisters, Helen LaVenture and husband, Andre, and Catherine Sinkovits; brother-in-law, Leo Filipovits and sons, Todd and Kyle; niece, Beth Filipovits; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Hanna, and brothers, Paul, Albert, and George.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 19 th at 10:30 a.m. in Queenship of Mary Church, 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton. Family and friends may call Sunday night from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21 st St., Northampton. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery. Those in attendance will kindly be requested to practice social distancing and wear a face cover.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be presented to the church in loving memory of Gerry. Online condolences may be offered above.
