Eugene J. Dax, 89 of Northampton, passed away on Wednesday May 13, 2026 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg. Born on July 7, 1936 in Allentown, he was a son of the late Eugene and Margaret (Kuzma) Dax, Sr. Eugene and his wife, Patricia (Lukish) would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on August 4th. He was employed as the Chief of Police for Lehigh University, retiring in 1999 and later served as a Deputy Sheriff for Lehigh County. Eugene honorably served our country in the US Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Queenship of Mary Catholic Church in Northampton where he served as Eucharistic Minister and was a founding member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. In addition, Eugene was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4050 and active with several fraternal organizations throughout his law enforcement career. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors: In addition to his wife, Eugene is survived by son, Christopher and wife Beth Dax; daughter, Karen Dyonda; 6 grandchildren, Christopher, Erica, Jessica, Joshua, Jennifer, Jacqueline and 9 great grandchildren. Sisters, Dolores and Barbara preceded Eugene in death.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 22nd at 10:30 a.m. in the church, 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton. Family and friends may gather on Friday from 9:15 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in the church. Interment with military honors will be at the parish cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Reichel Funeral Home, Northampton.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in loving memory of Eugene.
