Eleanor M. Lessel, 93, of Neffs, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Fellowship Terrace, Whitehall. Born September 14, 1930, in Cementon, she was a daughter of the late Gustave A. and Anna (Turbedsky) Hutnick. She was married to the late F. Parker Lessel. Eleanor was a member of Assumption BVM Church, Northampton, where she was a greeter and a member of the Young at Heart Club. She was a graduate of the former Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing, Allentown. Eleanor worked at the hospital until graduating and later at Allentown Osteopathic Hospital, from which she retired in 1990. She was a long-time volunteer for the Arc of Lehigh and Northampton Counties (formerly Association for Retarded Citizens) and, among other services, served on its SPARC Committee in support of the adult training facility. She also served on Lehigh County's MH/MR committee for many years. Eleanor was active with the Ladies Auxiliary 4th Degree Lehigh Valley Assembly. She also was a co-owner of Neffs Valley Park. But primarily, and most proudly, she was a loving, caring, dedicated and devoted mother and caregiver to her dependent daughter, Suzanne. Eleanor did not look at the sacrifices that she made for Suzanne as a burden, she saw them as a blessing.

Survivors: her daughter, Suzanne; and twenty nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by her brother, Paul Hutnick.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3rd at 10:00 a.m. in Assumption BVM Church, 22nd & Washington Ave., Northampton. Family and friends may call on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton. Entombment will follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to the church or The Arc of Lehigh & Northampton Counties, 2289 Ave A, Bethlehem, PA 18017, in loving memory of Eleanor. Online condolences may be offered below.
