Edwin M. Knecht, 77, of Lower Macungie Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, surrounded by his loving family. Born May 11, 1944, in Allentown, he was a son of the late Howard L. and Melba (Nonnemaker) Knecht. He was the loving husband of 56 years to June (Hunsicker) Knecht. He previously worked in construction then became employed with Lehigh Wholesale Groceries in Allentown. The building and business were bought by Sky Brothers of Altoona, PA. Through the years and various consolidates and name changes later, he retired from U.S. Food service of Allentown in 2011 after 31 years of employment. Edwin was a graduate of Parkland High School in 1962. He was a lifelong member of Cedar Lutheran Church. Edwin was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, vacationing, traveling, and crafting with plastic canvas.
In addition to his wife, Edwin is survived by his daughter, Denise, wife of Michael Follweiler of Lenhartsville; sons, Dennis and wife, Krista, of Lehighton and Mark and wife, Michelle, of Emmaus; grandchildren, Elizabeth Burkey (husband Brett), Robert Eltz, Jr., Jessica Knecht (fiancé John), Alyssa Knecht (fiancé Cody), Justin Knecht (wife Brenna), and Hailey Knecht; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Brittney, Tanner, Aliannah, and Anthony; sister-in-law, Helen Follweiler and husband, Richard; brother, Robert Knecht and wife, Patricia, of Macungie; and nieces, Angie Smith and Kristi Jewell. Edwin was predeceased by his great-granddaughters, Kirsten and Skylar, and loving fur baby, Patches.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15 th at 11:00 a.m. in the church, 3419 Broadway, Allentown. Family and friends may call Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the church. Interment will be private. Those in attendance will kindly be requested to practice social distancing and to wear a face cover. Arrangements are under the direction of Reichel Funeral Home, Northampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to St. Joseph's Indian School, 1301 N. Main St., Chamberlain, SD 57325 in loving memory of Edwin. Online condolences may be offered below.
