Obituary

Edward R. Spitzer, 90, of Northampton, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at home. Edward and his wife, Margarete B. (Asmus), celebrated 60 years of marriage. Born December 10, 1934, in Northampton, he was a son of the late Stephen and Mary (Gratzel) Spitzer. Edward proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, he pursued higher education and earned a bachelor's degree. He went on to build a career with the U.S. Government, working in the Real Estate Division as an interstate branch manager. A highly intellectual man, Edward had a lifelong passion for reading and was known as a "guru" when it came to the investment world. He was an active member of the Coplay Saengerbund and the Tri-Boro Sportsmen Club. Edward had a deep appreciation for fine dining, world travel, polka music, and taking relaxing walks.

In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by his brother, Stephen Spitzer, and lots of nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alfred, John and Joseph.

Services: A viewing will be held on Friday, Oct. 3rd from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. in Queenship of Mary Church, 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12:00 noon in the church. Interment will be in Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Reichel Funeral Home, Northampton. Online condolences may be offered below.
