Caroline (Lena) Marushak Yastrzab, 96, of Northampton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Sacred Heart Senior Living, Northampton surrounded by her loving family. Caroline was the wife of the late John Carl Yastrzab Sr., who passed away on April 20, 2009. Born January 14, 1925 in Laurys Station, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Gladish) Marushak. Caroline was a 1943 graduate of South Whitehall Township School District. She worked at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corp. during WWII. Caroline then worked in the office at Mack Trucks, Allentown, where she met her future husband, John, and retired from there in 1951. She was originally a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Northampton. After marrying John, they became members of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Northampton. She was a lifetime member of the Altar & Rosary Society and in later years became in charge of making pierogies as a fundraising event. Caroline was a current active member of Queenship of Mary Church. She was also a lifetime member of the Northampton Area Historical Society and one of its founding members back in 1975. Caroline enjoyed canning and freezing vegetables from her garden and working in her flower beds. She could be found most nights playing solitaire after dinner. Over the years, Caroline took many trips to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney cruises.
Survivors: son, John Jr.; daughters, Phyllis Yastrzab and Monica, wife of Robert Kempf; grandchildren, Jacob and Dana; and several nieces and nephews. Caroline was predeceased by her sister, Amelia Hutnick, and brothers, Michael, John, Stephen, Joseph, and Edward.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 20 th at 10:00 a.m. in Queenship of Mary Church, 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton. Family and friends may call Saturday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21 st St., Northampton. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Northampton. Those in attendance will kindly be requested to practice social distancing and wear a face cover. The Mass will also be available via livestream on the church's YouTube channel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be presented to the church or the Northampton Area Historical Society c/o funeral home in loving memory of Caroline. Online condolences may be offered above.
