Obituary

Barry L. Schuler, 75, of Whitehall, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. Barry and his wife, Patricia A. (Payonk), celebrating 46 years of marriage on May 14 th . Born July 19, 1947, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Warren "Joe" and Marion (Mumbower) Schuler. Barry graduated from William Allen High School in 1965. Shortly after graduating, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and sent to Fort Jackson for training. Barry was deployed from September '67 – '68 in the Vietnam War in the First Infantry, proudly representing the Big Red One, during the Tet Offensive. For his honorable service, Barry received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, One Overseas Service Bar, Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Sharpshooter Badge. After returning home, Barry started a career in the printing industry and worked at R&S Printers, in Northampton for many years. He retired from the City of Allentown. He was a member of the Egypt VFW Post 7293, Catty Legion Riders and Lehigh Valley HOG. Barry enjoyed bowling with the Monday Nighters at Jordan Lanes in Whitehall for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman. He especially loved to ride motorcycles with his wife. They traveled many miles throughout the U.S. on their Harley, making many friends.

In addition to his wife, Barry is survived by daughter, Tiffany James and husband, Peter; the light of his life, grandsons, Mason and Brady; his best feline friend, Coco; in-laws and good friend, John Payonk, Sr. (Anna, predeceased); many nieces and nephews including his godson, Brent Frisch, and loving niece, Debra Bartosiewicz and her husband, Mark; sisters-in-law, Cindy Frisch, Lisa Mack, and Sherri Payonk. Barry was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Alice Dias (Gabriel), and brother-in-law, John Payonk, Jr.

Services: A prayer service will be held on Thursday, March 23 rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21 st St., Northampton. Family and friends may gather Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors in loving memory of Barry. Online condolences may be offered below.
