Obituary

Andrew S. Kubik, of Whitehall, died peacefully Thursday, March 11, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospice House with his family by his side. He was 96 years old. Born September 17, 1924 in Northampton, he was a son of the late Michael and Katherine (Kovalcik) Kubik. A graduate of Whitehall High School, he served his country in World War II as a member of the Army Air Corp. He was assigned to the China, Burma, India theatre and, as an airplane crew chief, flew many missions "over the hump," widely considered one of the more dangerous assignments of the war. Following the war, he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 375. He was a working electrician for more than 40 years, including 18 as business manager for the Local. In his earlier years, he was a Boy Scout leader, competitive softball pitcher, bowler, and accomplished dancer. Later, he became a proficient vegetable gardener often supplying his family and neighbors with the fruits of his labor. Known as Uncle Hondy to his nieces and nephews, he also had a well-earned reputation as someone who could fix anything. A devout Catholic, Andy was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Whitehall.

He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Stednick, to whom he would have been married for 70 years this October, and four children: Susan Scott and her husband Art, of Easton; Terri Kubik, of Boca Raton, FL; Andy Kubik and his wife Lisa, of Whitehall and Pat Marshall and her husband Steve, of Schnecksville. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Andrew Kubik and his wife Jennifer, of Whitehall; Jenna Notareschi and her husband Andrew, also of Whitehall and Derek Marshall, of Schnecksville; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his seven siblings.
